Things to Know About Taking Class…

Attire

There are changing rooms at each studio.  Wear clothing you can move in (but no baggy clothes please, they obscure alignment).  Bare feet are essential.  No perfume. No heavy jewelry.

Food

Come to class with an empty stomach.

Special Physical Needs

Be sure to let your teacher know about any injuries, physical problems or medical conditions so she can modify poses for you.

Be on Time

Teachers begin each class with preparatory practices for what follows.  It’s unsafe (and disruptive) to come in late. (An exception is made for the Combo class – see Class Description.)

Do not come to class

if you have any contagious condition.  You are sharing the floor, the props, and the air with many other students.

Be considerate

of others who come early to class to warm up, meditate or be still.  Be mindful of your words and conversation with others before or during practice.

Equipment needed for yoga classes

Hatha/ IyengarYoga: mat, strap, 2 blocks, and 3 yoga (Mexican) blankets

            Abs/Core: mat

            Gentle Yoga: mat and blanket

Health Thru Yoga Class Descriptions

Level I:  Learn basic asanas and the use of props.  Receive one on one attention with adjustments to achieve better alignment.  Begin to learn Sanskrit names of asanas.  “A student is always considered a beginner.”

Level II:  Should have studied Level I.  Students should be able to hold asanas longer and go deeper into the pose.  A student should also know the names of asanas and have begun to incorporate yoga into their lives beyond the classroom.

Combo ClassThis class is designed to combine elements of abs/core with yoga.

Gentle  yoga:  Gentle stretch and flow class.  There is some standing and some sitting (chairs available).   The workout is less intense and easier, more relaxing with some individualized attention.

Abs/Core:  Strengthen abs, tone thighs and buttocks, reduce backaches, & feel stronger! The workout is at a faster pace with more movement and cardio training.

Private Yoga Lessons:  are available at your home, our home or Indian Summer.  It is highly recommended to have a private lesson to work on your specific issues/areas of the body so that you can take that awareness into the classroom.
