Lesli's Teaching Style and Influences

HTY classes are a system of "Balanced Yoga", implementing many teaching styles. Props are used for better alignment when needed (and the students provide these and bring them to each class). Each student learns which props to use (if and when) by the teacher while allowing subtle changes as we open, grow or get injured/less flexible. We learn to change with our changing experiences; body, mind and Spirit.

The teachings come from the studies of the book "Light on Yoga" by BKS Iyengar, IYNAUS Teaching Manuals (given to Lesli by her teacher), Sivananda Yoga, Kundalini, Vinyasa and Ashtanga Yoga, to incorporate balance of one's Whole Self, relationships, body, thought and work. Lesli's studies of Health Education at UM-Flint also offered great awareness of the body to bring to the classroom.

Lesli has studied for over 15 years with certified Senior Iyengar instructors and many other teachers of different styles. Lesli's first training came at the Siddha Yoga Ashram in South Fallsburg, New York where a daily schedule of meditation, quiet sitting in Temple, chanting the Guragita, vegetarian eating, silence, dorm-room sharing, yoga asana/philosophy and devotion along with daily Seva were practiced and lived. It is during this time that the Guru of this lineage was there and Lesli, along with thousands of other devotional students were able to sit personally at the foot of this Guru and offer up their hearts. It is this understanding of 'Yoga' that Lesli brings to the classroom and encourages her Teachers in Training to learn, embrace and practice, encouraging with a compassionate heart to all students who come to practice with her.
